We had our family safari in Uganda which took us through Murchison Falls National Park to Kalangala in ssese islands for holidays.
Upon our arrival in Uganda, we were picked by Emma an experienced Nature Adventure Africa safari’s driver who dropped us at Serena hotel to check in for dinner and overnight stay.
In the morning, we woke up at a cup of coffee before embarking to our journey in Murchison Falls National Park. We had a road trip from Kampala via Bombo town where we had a stopover to get some snacks and michomos and later proceeded to Nakasongola via Luweero district. We had our next stopover in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking. During rhino trekking, we also came a cross some bird species such as the shoebills. After trekking for about 3 hours, we ordered for our lunch and later proceeded to Murchison Falls National Park through Masindi district. Upon our arrival in the park, we checked in Sambiya Lodge (Sambiya family cottage) for dinner and overnight stay.
The next day after having our breakfast, we headed for a game drive to search for bird life and we also came across wildlife animals such as lions, giraffes, herds of elephants, buffaloes and many more. We later returned back to the lodge for dinner and relaxation. After lunch, we returned for afternoon boat ride along Nile River. While on a boat cruise along the Nile we spotted animals such as crocodiles, hippos among others when at river bank drinking water and birds. Later we went back to Sambiya lodge for overnight. During our stay at Sambiya Lodge, we also enjoyed the ziplining activity.
In the morning, we were transferred to Kabwoya wildlife reserve taking an enroute game drive to spot more wildlife species that Murchison Falls National Park offers and after continue to Kabwoya wildlife reserve located in the scenic Albertine Rift along with Lake Albert with the Blue Mountains of the Congo seen in the distance.
We took the scenic route and crossed over the escarpment into the valley below where the Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve is located. On our arrival in the reserve, we checked- in Lake Albert safari Lodge for lunch and refreshed our journey fatigue in the pool. This lodge is located on a cliff overlooking Lake Albert and hence giving a nice view. After having our late lunch, we went for fishing at Lake Albert where we caught different sizes of Nile perch. For safety reasons, in each motorboat we were allowed to sit only 3 people. We really enjoyed this activity because the species caught we ate them for dinner. Our guide told us that there are a number of activities to do while at Lake Albert safari lodge in case you have much time and these include; Quad biking, fossil hunting, mountain bike riding among others.
The following morning after having breakfast and checking out the lodge, we then departed for Kibale Forest National Park driving to some beautiful countryside which was a bonus along the way. Upon reaching Kibale forest area, we checked-in Kibale forest camp where we stayed in up market tented cottages for dinner and overnight stay.
The next morning, we had our breakfast and then proceed to park’s headquarters (Kanyanchu visitor’s center) for briefing on rules and guidelines of conducting chimpanzees trekking. We started the search in the jungle but it took us like 3 – 4 hours to find these creatures. After finding them, we were given 1 hour of being up close to them and watching them feeding and we also took some photos and videos.
Apart from chimpanzees, we also got a chance of seeing other wildlife and primates like bush pig, elephants, blue monkeys, baboons among others, bird species and ever green savannah vegetation of Kibale national park. We returned back to the camping area for lunch and later came back for a guided nature walk in the bigodi wetland sanctuary where we got the opportunity of seeing a variety of butterflies, birds and insects. After the bigodi walk, we went back for dinner and overnight.
The next morning, we went for shoebill search in bigodi sanctuary swamp and we saw other primates like the sitatunga, white and black Columbus, vervet monkeys. After that we went back in the camping area to pick our luggage to head to Semuliki National Park. We had an enroute game drive where we saw animals such as savannah elephants, Buffaloes, waterbuck, crocodiles, warthogs, Uganda Kobs among others and upon the arrival we checked-in Semliki Safari Lodge where we refreshed and relaxed as waiting for dinner and overnight.
In the morning after taking our breakfast, we headed to a long trail which took us to the outer part of male spring that led us through a patch of forest where we found red-tailed monkeys as well as the grey-cheeked manageable and black-and-white Colobus monkeys. We also visited the female hot spring where we enjoyed boiling eggs and matooke. In the afternoon after having lunch, we went for bird watching at sempaya birding area which provided us a nice view of seeing bird species such as the White-crested Horn bill, Red-billed Dwarf Horn bill, Yellow-throated Nicator, Piping Horn bill Great blue, Ross’s Turacos and many more and later went back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
The next morning, we departed for Queen Elizabeth National Park via Fort portal where we had an enroute visit to Amabere ganyiramwiru. We later went to the mountains of the moon hotel to get some lunch and later proceeded to Queen Elizabeth national park while enjoying the good panoramic view tea plantations and Rwenzori Mountain ranges. Upon our arrival in Queen Elizabeth National Park, we checked in Queen Elizabeth bush lodge for dinner and overnight stay. This lodge has ecologically designed bandas that are spaced in such a way as to maximize privacy. The Bush Lodge also borders the Kazinga channel known as the best wildlife-watching spot in the park.
After a warm wake up coffee, we went for early morning game drive where we spotted big cats such as lions, leopards, civet, genal and serval cats and many more. After the game drive, we went back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon we back for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel and we spotted hippos and crocodiles and later came back to the lodge. At the bush lodge, we enjoyed dinner with a campfire.
The next morning after checking out the lodge, we transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha sector by seeing the climbing lions in the fig trees and this is only when your lucky because its rare to see to them on the way. We had our enroute lunch at Ishasha wilderness camp and later proceeded to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon our arrival in Bwindi, we checked in Gorilla Forest Lodge for refreshment as we were waiting for dinner.
After an early morning breakfast with packed lunch, we were transferred to the gorilla trekking information office where we received a pre-briefing by our ranger guide about the rules and regulations of trekking gorillas. We were grouped into groups of 8 members and we entered the jungle. The trekking took about 5 hours to come up close to these giants. After finding gorillas, the rangers gave us about an hour of taking pictures and also watching these giants playing. We later went back to the trekking office to get our certificates and returned to the lodge to wait for our dinner while enjoying the great views of the forest. We were charged US$800 each for the permits and these permits we booked them through Nature Adventure Africa Safari from Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Besides gorilla trekking tours, we were told that there is also gorilla habitation and it is $1500 dollars. For gorilla habituation small groups are made of 4 members and after reaching the habituated gorilla group, visitors are given 4 hours to interact with gorillas to help them in feeding and also observing their habits and behaviors.
In the morning after breakfast, we proceeded to Lake Bunyonyi with our packed lunch for relaxation. Lake Bunyonyi is a big lake surrounded by green hills and its water is clear and calm whereas perfect for swimming and boat riding. We took a boat ride on the lake and explored some small islands such as the Akampene island where unmarried pregnant girls were left to die of hunger taking it as an example to other young girls. Each island is like a little paradise with sandy beaches and lush vegetation.
We also went for swimming and the water was cool and refreshing and we had a lot fun splashing around. There are many colorful fish in the lake and we enjoyed watching them swimming beneath the surface.
After a long day of swimming and boat riding, we went in a charming Arcadia lodge. The lodge had cozy cottages with beautiful views of the lake. We could see the sunrise from windows and it was absolutely stunning. The staff at the lodge was very friendly and welcoming. They made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
After having a warm cup of tea and checking out the lodge, we headed to Lake Nabugabo the hidden wonder of central Uganda close to the town of Masaka. Upon our arrival, we checked on the fisher men’s base where we bought fish that was eaten for dinner and later went to Nabugabo Cottages for overnight stay.
The next morning, we were transferred from Lake Nabugabo to Kalangala island for a short holiday and here we boarded a ferry boat which took us to an archipelago of 84 Islands on Lake Victoria. On our way to Kalangala we enjoyed the scenic view of Lake Victoria while on the ferry. Reaching Kalangala island, we enjoyed swimming and later checked in Pearl Gardens Beach Kalangala for dinner and overnight stay.
Early morning after breakfast, we went for sport fishing where we spotted crocodiles and later relaxed on the island of Kalangala. We went back to the gardens for lunch and checking out so as we prepare for our coming back to Entebbe. After lunch, we boarded a boat and sailed again on Lake Victoria for about 3 hours back to Nakiwogo Landing Site in Entebbe. Upon reaching Entebbe International Airport, we checked in protea hotel Entebbe for dinner and also to starting preparing for our morning flight and that was the end of our safari holiday.
